Level 4/5/6 Diploma with Top up BSc Degree in Finance and Accounting

ATHE has recently released two new qualifications in Accounting at levels 4 and 5. These qualifications are available as 60-credit diplomas or 120-credit extended diplomas. They have been designed with a career in accounting in mind and have been developed alongside the Institute of Financial Accountants (IFA).

Year 1 : Diploma Level 4 and 5

The qualifications will give learners the skills and understanding they need to work within small to medium sized enterprises. Learners completing the qualifications will gain awareness of accounting and tax regulation, as well as the ability to produce and interpret a full range of financial information.

The units within these qualifications include:

Law for Accounting
Budgetary Control
Quantitative Methods
Financial Reporting
Learners completing both the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Accounting and ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Accounting who also have three years’ experience within the industry, will also have the exciting opportunity to gain Associate Membership with the IFA by completing two additional units, 301 Assurance and 302 Advanced Taxation.

Year 2 :

Level 6 Diploma in Accounting

Accounting and finance are at the very heart of business operations. From banking to manufacturing, from huge service industries to micro businesses, the ability to manage, plan and account for money is still the ultimate measure of business success and the key driver of growth.

Many accountants occupy key managerial positions in business, yet few are qualified managers. In the increasingly complex modern business environment, there is a high demand for skilled professionals who can work flexibly in teams across business boundaries.

The objective of the  Level 6 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required by a middle or senior manager in an organisation, and who may be involved in managing organisational finances, investment and risk, audit and assurance, or research.

Entry requirements

For entry onto the  Level 6 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification, learners must possess:

  • Relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 5 diploma or equivalent recognised qualification
  • Mature learners (over 21) with management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre regarding this experience prior to registering for the programme)
  • Learner must be 18 years or older at the beginning of the course

Equivalences

 Qualifications at RQF Level 6 represent practical knowledge, skills, capabilities and competences that are assessed in academic terms as being equivalent to Bachelor’s Degrees with Honours, Bachelor’s Degrees, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Graduate Diplomas and Graduate Certificates.

Qualification structure

The  Level 6 Diploma in Accounting and Business consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 480 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Duration and delivery

The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

Assessment and verification

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by . The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.

Progression

Successful completion of Level 6 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification provides learners the opportunity for a wide range of academic progressions including progression to relevant  Level 7 Diplomas. This qualification has been developed with career progression and professional recognition in mind. As the Level 6 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation), learners are eligible to gain direct entry into relevant Master’s degree programmes. Year 3 : Top up BSc in Accounting and Finance

Level 7 Diploma with Top up MSc in Accounting and Finance

Duration : 1 year

The Level 7 Diploma in Accounting and Finance qualification is designed to meet the needs of senior/middle managers and accountants in the running of their businesses, and to facilitate their progression to higher levels within their organisation. This level 7 programme includes contemporary topics with cuttingedge content, reflecting key issues within the 21st-century business environment as well as the latest developments in management research. The overall structure of the qualification is based on six units that cover a number of topics relating to learning outcomes. All six units are mandatory with the equivalency of 20 credits.

Entry Requirements

This programme will broaden your specialist knowledge previously gained at a professional level 7. In particular the module, ‘Accounting & finance research project’ guides you to research into the key challenges accounting and finance professionals face in the industry. This module aims to equip accounting and finance professional with the necessary skills to undertake independent project work within a business context.  The Research Methods element provides you with an introduction to research, types of research methodology, formulating and planning a research project, data collection, analysis and presentation of research findings based upon an actual industry specific or corporate focused topic.

Progression Pathways

Upon completing this Level 7 diploma, learners can join a university partner to complete a dissertation to then receive a full master’s degree. Learners can also step directly into employment in an associated profession or progress to the Qualifi Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.
